Young Star

What is Young Star?

Young Star is a full color, kid-friendly page that you'll find each Thursday on the last page of the Arts and Living section in The Star. The page features letters from local students (Kindergarten through grade 6") from an assigned weekly topic list. There are puzzles and games, too.

How can my student get his/her letter in Write Place?

At the beginning of each school year, teachers are sent a copy of the Young Star topics along with the due dates. Teachers and parents can use these topics to promote literacy, by having students put on their thinking caps and write a response to each question.

Here are some examples of this school year's Young Star topics:

· Why do people like you?
· If you had one super power, what would it be?
· Tell us about something you've made. Maybe it's something you've cooked, built, painted or sewed.
· What would you do if you found a magic wand?
· What would happen if animals could talk? What would you ask them?

My son/daughter/student submits a letter each week and his/her letter has yet to be printed. Why?

Although we would love to print each and every letter submitted to Young Star (which can be 1,000 letters per week!), we reserve the right to select which letters to print. Unfortunately, we can only print as many letters as space allows.

I still have questions. Whom may I contact?
